Thinking how could we buy a bakra from the outskirts of Lahore? went off on a journey to “Bakra Mandi”. Along with Fairy Baji and her Pinocchio grandson, following a Google map, through a roller coaster channel we reached our destiny, safe & sound, Shukr ul Alhamdu Lillah. Driving on a hot n baking day following someone who was following any dick and Harry on every twist n turn. I thought of “abracadabra”, standing in a cue crawling like a turtle behind the heavy centipede vehicles in a terrific traffic jam several times, wishing to vanish and appear at the bakra spree.
From parking, we started a brisk walk till fetched our black spotty gora goat “Oreo” at the farm swarming with mammals. The salesman was a dark “muchaal“ macho man who couldn’t become a fairy tale “giant”. At Azaan e Maghrib fairy Baji offered her fruit box to break the fast. The “cowboys”, rural fellows, and Pinocchio negotiated well, a lot better than the dumb-headed politicians, we had a good bargain.
Oreo was a cool guy, down to earth. He touched his head so adoringly as if he knew me formerly. Getting back home was swift and steady. He was at home and was thirsty, grazing grains and greenery.
While strolling out of the animal market it got dusky, neither light nor water was provided for the living beings gathered for gracing an auspicious occasion of “Eid ul Azha” for a big business.
Imaginative scenario; an awesome western movie farm, all animals neatly harnessed in their boundaries, well fed and washed. The only difference in costumes is desi cowboys clad in Awami suits, chappals, and turbans playing the role of “Maula Jutt”.
It’s a convention to verify that cleanliness is our custom and culture. The bakra spree can turn into “Mammal Mandi Mela” as it used to be in “mela mawashi” plus “industrial exhibition” in Fortress Stadium Lahore Cantt. Food stalls and swings can change a hectic day into a superb trip to the “M3 festival”, especially for the little ones.
A point to ponder concluded in a day’s mind-blowing adventure, I wish the phenomenon “M3 festival” emerges in “Prosperous Pakistan” in multiple spots, all around suburbs of Lahore. The authorities of horticulture, livestock, and waste busters departments team up for an energy conservation plan; the dung of animals collected from all spots of the “M3 festival” could transform into a brand “Gold urea” and litter would be utilized as electricity supply. “M3 festival” shall rock.
